Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop

Rankinfraser were approached by Sutherland Hussey Harris Architects and subsequently appointed by the Sculpture Workshop to provide Landscape Architectural services for the proposed Edinburgh Sculpture Workshops and Creative Labs at 25 Hawthornvale in Newhaven. The building sits on the steep bank of the former Caledonian Railway line, now part of the extensive Edinburgh cycle path network and was characterised by extensive regenerating woodland prior to development. The external design includes a sculpture court, an area for outdoor seating adjacent to the new cafe and soft landscaping along the existing cycle route and woodlands. The landscape works provides a new setting for the building by enhancing the public realm and restoring some of the woodland which was lost to accommodate the building.
