Prestonpans Wins Twice at the Scottish Design Awards

Prestonpans Civic Square won not only Gold in the Regeneration Category at the Scottish Design Awards but also the Chairs Award for Architecture. We are delighted to see the square’s transformation gaining recognition. Heather Claridge, the Director of Design at Architecture and Design Scotland described the project as;

“an entry which has used design very effectively to sensitively transform an underused space in the heart of the community. The approach to rejuvenate Prestonpans Civic Square uses well-considered design interventions to connect and celebrate the coastline, link to the long-distance John Muir Way and create a welcoming space and destination for all. The project is underpinned by a partnership approach with the Local Authority and Community Council. Ultimately, many towns and villages across Scotland have a public space which has been forgotten or is unloved and this example demonstrates again, what clever design and collaboration can do to help regenerate and reinforce a sense of place.”

We would like to congratulate our client at East Lothian Council and the wider design and contractor team and look forward to the completion of the second phase of the works.

We worked at the invitation of @7n.architects with young people in Lerwick to address the theme of the biennale. The commission will now be exhibited @vadundee from 22 May -21 Nov 2021.
